What Is Caves of Qud?

Caves of Qud is a deep, procedurally generated science-fantasy roguelike RPG set in a far-future, post-apocalyptic world. You build a character from dozens of mutations and skills, then drop into a world that generates its own history, factions, dungeons, villages, and legends. Every playthrough tells a completely different story.

Character Building Is Insane

The character creation alone can take an hour. You choose between True Kin (genetically pure humans with cybernetic implants) or Mutated Humans (who start with random biological mutations). Mix and match abilities like multiple sets of arms, acid spit, heightened smell, or the power to regenerate limbs. The combinations are nearly infinite and every build changes how you experience the world.

The World Feels Alive

Villages have names, histories, and grudges. Legendary creatures roam the land. Ancient ruins contain lore written in a language you can actually learn to read. NPCs give quests, tell legends, and react to your reputation. Caves of Qud generates a living world, not just a random dungeon layout.

The Learning Curve Is Real

Let's be honest — this game has a steep learning curve. The ASCII-adjacent visuals take getting used to, the interface is dense, and death comes fast.
